  • The Band
A five piece live hip-hop outfit consisting of MCs Juan Hooks & Governor Auto Funkstar with spoken word artist and vocalist Cousin. Jethro handles the live guitarist work and is the main man behind the studio production, engineering, and song arrangement. Adam plays bass & Matt Grundstad provides the beat. Derek Thorn a.k.a. MC Animosity makes frequent guest appearances on the mic along along with occasional appearances by 2002 Scribble Jam champ DJ Skwint.
  • The Releases
The Bad Fathers have released two full length CDs, an EP, 12 vinyl and they are currently promoting their latest full length "Go Poke a Hole in Yourself" ----available on-line---check it out!


The first production in 1997 (Harvest Time) was under the group name The Committee followed by an EP (Too Many Sheets) in 2000 which featured DJ #0 from Slipknot, and another full length (Throwing Chicken Bones @ the Crack House) which dropped in 2001.

In 2002 they started their own record label titled Rosemary Records and renamed the group Bad Fathers. Jan. of 2003 brought the release of a 12" titled Swallow for Iowa which rose to #2 on Insomniac Magazines record pool charts. January of 2004 brought the release of the full length CD titled Go Poke a Hole in Yourself along with extensive touring. Also in summer 2003, Rosemary Records released "Luca Moved Upstairs" a spoken word compilation featuring Sage Francis, Governor Auto Funkstar, Cousin, Patricia Smith (4 time National Poetry Slam Champion) and many others.

  • The References
The band has a solid reputation as an entertaining, quality sounding live act with a fan base that guarantees healthy attendance in clubs around the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids area. Touring hip-hop acts often request the Bad Fathers as openers for their shows. Performances include: Ja Rule, Rakim, Slum Village, Atmosphere, Naughty by Nature, Kotton Mouth Kings, Digital Underground, Next, MTVs DJ Scribble, Pharcyde, 8 Ball and MJG, Def Comedy and Def Poetry Jam acts, The world Famous Beat Junkies, and countless others.
